Top 10 Oil Companies based on US Crude Production
Chevron is the big dog of the big dogs. They produce an astounding 997,000 bbl/d (MBD). Much of this is driven by the Permian, San Joaquin Valley, and US Gulf of Mexico. That would fill 5,816 school buses everyday.
ConocoPhillips is the 2nd biggest producer of crude oil each day in the US. With the approval of the Willow project it is set to get even bigger. The project will produce 180,000 barrels per day. This is on top of other assets they have throughout the USA.
Exxon has crushed the Permian recently with acquisitions of Pioneer and XTO. They also have a strong presence in the Gulf of Mexico and North Dakota... and pretty much everywhere else.
When it comes to US land based assets the Permian and the DJ are the two biggest drivers of production for OXY. They are also the 4th largest producer of Gulf.
EOG Resources - They operate in several basins in the US. Some notable ones include the Williston, Powder River, DJ, Anadarko, Permian, and Eagleford. They drill... a lot. They also returned 5.1 bn to shareholders in 2022. 475,200 bbl/d is 4 olympic sized swimming pools of crude a day.
Although these guys aren't US based, they sure take advantage of US assets. BP is very heavy in the US Gulf of Mexico. They have other fields throughout the US, but are not as heavy hitters in the Permian as the companies listed above.
They are focused in 5 core areas. Williston ND, Power River WY, Anadarko OK, Delaware TX/NM, and Eagleford Texas. The Delaware Basin is where Devon spends 60% of its resources.
This company live and breathes West Texas. Wallstreet has rewarded them for this. Their stock is up 105% in the last 5 years.
Continental is the largest leaseholder in the Bakken. They also acquired more resources in the Powder River Basin and the Permian.
These guys do 1 thing and 1 thing only. Frack the top off the Permian. And they do it well.
